What is the “chemical” in our peels?
This is a common question we get asked from both clients who have received our facials before and from new clients. The answer is not as scary as chemical, and peel, may sound; all of the peels are formulated with naturally based chemicals you can find in food, plants, and in your body. Each peel is developed with advanced blends of exfoliants and antioxidants to delivery powerful skin renewal while still being safe and effective. Read below for more ingredient information and find out how each peel can help lighten, tighten, and brighten your skin. Don't be afraid of a chemical peel, they are an important part of your skin care maintenance.

The chemicals we use are naturally based with ingredients like:

Malic Acid – green apple, helps skin retain moisture and exfoliates to reveal smoother and brighter skin.

Tartaric Acid - grapes, provides antioxidant protection which helps fight free radicals like UV and pollutant damage, exfoliates, and improves skin texture.

Lactic Acid - produced by your body and also found in some milk based foods, fights signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles, exfoliates, hydrates, and helps improve skin texture.

Citric Acid - found in citrus fruits, gently exfoliates, brightens, and smooths skin.

Salicylic Acid - found in plants, promotes exfoliation with cell turnover, helps with acne, reduces redness from blemishes.

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) - found in vinegar, can prevent skin cancer and tightens the skin.

Why are the words, "acid," "chemical," and, "peel" used?

Acid - Ingredients used in chemical peels are considered acidic when looking at the pH scale, which means they have a lower Ph than water. Acids used in our facials are safely formulated to be controlled and self-neutralize. They are not the same corrosive acids used in cleaning products or in a chemistry lab.

Chemical - These solutions, while sometimes naturally derived (like malic, tartaric, lactic acid, etc.) are still classified as chemicals due to their composition and function in altering the skin. The term "chemical" signifies the use of these formulated substances to achieve a desired cosmetic effect, rather than implying harsh or dangerous ingredients.

Peel - Refers to the controlled removal of dead skin build up by a chemical solution. Since our facials prep the skin by starting with a manual exfoliation of dermaplaning and microdermabrasion, we find the word "peel" to be more intense than what really happens, which is mild flaking if any at all.
